Weren't they wonderful? I still have yet to find an RPG that recaptures the Lunar magic. Those games were something special.

I've never had a game really make me glad I've played it from front to end as I did with Eternal Blue. The extra ending just makes the game. If not for that, I'd never have had much faityh in RPGs again. This game just has it all, and I'd love to play it again...just have to set up the Saturn again and get out the adapter for playing Japanese games.

That really says a lot about the state of RPGs today. The graphics for all these new games have improved tremendously, but the stories and characters have faltered a bit. Kazoo - You played Eternal Blue in Japanese? That's really something. What is the Saturn version like? I only have the PS versions of SSS and EB.

Yep. I only can play the Japanese version of the game, since I don't own a US Sega CD, or a Sega CD anyway. I bought the Sega CD versions of both games due to them being cheap, so I got them! ^^ It's not cheap to send the system from the US to me, so I'll have to see about it later, I guess... The saturn version of Lunar: Eternal Blue is clean, clear and fun to play. The Japanese voices are funny and really fit the game well. The controls are intuitive and it's easy to roam the screens and avoid any unwanted creeps. Plus, the adapter I use to play it has a cheat device attached, so it's even easier to play! The only downside to the adapter is that you can't save directly to it's save chip, so you need to use the limited internal memory of the Saturn... Also, speaking of great story and characters melding to make a great game, Grandia the original really is one of the best at coming close to EB's quality. Final Fantasy XII has good characters, but the story is a little meager in proper development of ALL characters, unlike Eternal Blue, where all characters got the treatment.

Nice collection, L-chan. Your RPG collection is similar to my fighting games where it's taking up most of the space on the dvd rack.

GKM: Speaking of Grandia...I have yet to play that. I bought it off an auction about a year ago and the farthest I got was taking off the shrinkwrap. ^^; But if you say it's like the Lunar games then I'm going to start on it ASAP. ;D Thank you very much, smallwind. ^^ What fighting games do you have? The only fighting games I ever played were Guilty Gear and Power Stone.

Hey L. Yeah, the original Grandia is similar to the Lunar: EB, but it's not exactly like it. It's the fourth best game I've ever played.
Just for the record, here's the list of 10 most favourite RPGs, in order of best to least: 1. Chrono Trigger 2. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue 3. Star Ocean: Second Story 4. Grandia 1 5. Final Fantasy 7 6. Breath of Fire 2 7. Tales of Symphonia 8. Final Fantasy 9 9. Final Fantasy X-2 10. Vagrant Story
Since Vagrant Story isn't really an RPG, it is listed as the tenth most favourite. It's half RPG, so it makes the list. It's my third favourite game of all time, however. I find that if a game has made me enjoy it from start to finish as well as make me want to play it again, then I have it as an all-time favourite. Since VS is this kind of game, as well as the fact that it has a new game plus addition (being able to carry over your weapons and their affinity with the beasts you kill) is a great aspect of the game. It's one of the main reasons I really love Chrono Trigger the most of any game.
I don't have many fighting games myself, just SF Zero 1 & 2 in Japanese, as well as X-Men vs. SF (which sadly doesn't work on my Saturn, even though the adapter was said to run it), but they're good games, especially in Japanese! ^^

Hmmm... Chrono Trigger is also a number one for me all time. Lunar SSS is two. FF 7 is three. Lunar EB is four. I haven't really played enough RPGs to make a top 10 list. T_T

Hey Ant. Yes, CT is just an awesome game, period. ^^ Sad that you don't own more RPGs...they're what got me into games, even though my first game to buy was Super Mario World. I went retro at the time and got myself a NES system and Zelda 1 and 2, as they were actually still available to buy at the time. Zelda 1 went first, so that was my first RPG, but it was Zelda 3 that made me look for RPGs so much. I forgot to put it on the list, so it takes the place of Vagrant Story, but Zelda: a Link to the Past is more of a favourite than 10th spot. But, I'm not going to change the list!

Hmm..I never got the chance to play Chrono Trigger. What makes it so good, and should I be desperately searching for a copy? GKM - I agree with most of the games on your list. But Lunar SSSC and Lunar EBC would be my top two choices. I'd also add some Nippon Ichi games like Disgaea and Ar Tonelico as well. And maybe Jeanne d'Arc. I'm currently playing it now and love it. It's so much fun. ^^ And this marks my 100th post so now I'm officially a full member. I really shouldn't be spending so much time on internet forums. ^^;;

Chrono Trigger makes itself - it really is the ultimate RPG, at least in Japanese style. I may seem a bit elitist in saying that, but it's just got everything right. Pacing, colour, interest, story, characterisation, budget - this game had it all. It utilised the best of the genre and the system it was on, bringing forth a plethora of skill and preciseness about it that rarely is seen in a video game, even today. Yeah, I may be a bit overbearing in that description, but Chrono Trigger is the first and last stop I go to for the best experience in the RPG for me - it's just that good! ^^ (I'm just able to see the aesthetics of the game maybe as an artist or someone who loves the details) And congrats on the 100th post! Mine's over 1,040, so maybe I'M here too long!

GKM: Thank you very much, smallwind. ^^ What fighting games do you have? The only fighting games I ever played were Guilty Gear and Power Stone. Here's a list of the ones I have on my shelf from looking at it: Tekken Tag Tekken 4 Tekken 5 Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection (psp and ps3 version) Virtua Fighter 4 Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution Virtua Fighter 5 (ps3 and xbox 360 version) Capcom vs SNK 2 (gamecube, ps2 and xbox version) Snk vs Capcom Chaos Power Stone Collection DarkStalkers Chronicles Samurai Showdown V Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Neogeo Battle Coliseum Capcom Fighter Jam/Evolution (ps2 and xbox version) King of Fighter Maximum Impact King of Fighter Maximum Impact Mainax Soul Calibur 2 Soul Calibur 3 King of Fighters 00/01 King of Fighters 02/03 King of Fighters XI Guilty Gear X Guilty Gear XX Guilty Gear XX #reload Guilty Gear Isuka Guilty Gear XX Slash (import) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Yeah, I have alot duplicate games but its alright sometimes the game is different for each console like some will run arcade perfect and some will run a *whee* bit faster than the arcade. For RPGs the last one I played and beat recently was Jeanne D'Arc (Joan of Arc) for PSP. The game plays like FF tactics and Disgaea.

For me, the perfection in CT is the long, interesting storyline---going back and forth in time to save your world, the balance of characters that you could play with, the combos your parties can use during fights, the soundtrack with many memorable tunes, and replayability.

Oh! I forgot about Soul Caliber. *slaps forehead* That was a really great fighting game. I always used Link for my fights. =D But that's certainly a long list. Out of all those games which is your favorite, smallwind?
BTW, is Chrono Trigger still being sold in retail stores or is it something only available through sites like eBay?
