just in today, 400$ worth of anime cel:  ...yep only two pieces, gotten on yahoo japan,one came with original sketch  my first anime cels, and man they are way smaller than I thought.. |

I started buying in early 2000 or so. But the prices kept escalating for production cels (think Vampire Hunter D), and it just became too expensive for me when I found myself interested in a $1,000+ chibi Belldandy cel. . . had to quit cold turkey. >_<

oh lol I prably won't ever spend 1000$ on anime cel..na, never..I hope..its a good thing you stoped before it went too far, cause I think any collection would become addictive once you've invested that kind money into it. but ya know, recently I have been revisting some nadesico cel auctions on yja, and man they are costy, like this one: page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f81314492probly going for 30000+yen, but I want  and also, looks kinda suspicious, do you think its genuine? |

Oh my gosh, those are some pretty sweet cels, Lee! They're both gorgeous. But man...$400 for the two of them? That's... I think the highest I ever paid for a cel was $80 for a cel of Van from Escaflowne. Second highest was $75 of an opening cel from the Shamanic Princess OAV. ^_^;; So what are you gonna do with your new cels? Are you going to frame one of them?  |

they are over priced and I'm the only bidder lol but what the hack, I want them so I'll pay any price! no pay no gain^^
Escaflowne...I watched ova but not the anime, the mechine is pretty amazing reminds me of five star stories. is it really awesome?
I really do want frame them, when I get extra money coming in I will, as of last week I'm totally broke=_=

Escaflowne anime is a very good show, imo. Came out at the same time as Evangelion, which took all the attention from anime fans. But I personally think Esca is a solid show in its own right, if you don't mind the "nose" (you'll know what I mean if you watch just one ep.  ). As for that Nadesico cel, I don't know if it's genuine or not. You'll have to see if there are any letters or numbers written on the edge of the cel (production companies do that to keep track of cels for use in a sequence). |

heh it must be that good if first ep is enough to attract audiances attention, tho I myself didn't like eva that much(it made me think, and animes not suppose to do that lol) wel, gota give it a try and see if I missed out.
that nadesico cel seems to be framed so no way to tell, but I take back about going over 30000yen but more likely 5, no 60000yen at this rate...ahhh but it looks so amazinbly awesome!! look, its even smiling at me as I'm typing lol

lol No pain, no gain indeed. Cel collecting can certainly be a more hazardous hobby than figure collecting. Haha. ^^
Escaflowne is a classic. The TV series is absolutely beautiful to watch. I was never too crazy about the movie since it lacked a lot of the character development and depth that made the original series so great. I would be willing to buy the whole series again if it ever came out on Blu-ray disc.
And I really hope you're able to frame at least one of those cels, Lee. Good luck saving up for that.

ah totally, there are just too many of them to collect, I mean one single anime will have more cels of a single char than all the figures out there combined. well, I should be getting to it very soon, noway I can miss a masterpiece. but I just found 3 new animes soul eater and good old Sorcerer Hunters and kimikiss along with 10+animes I couldn't finish..heck, I still haven't finished watching RxJ yet after all this time  |

The only cel I have ever bought is Penny from Inspector Gadget, at 70 USD. Had to have it, as she's my favourite character from those days, and that was the second of two cels sold at the time. And it was huge! ^^ Over A4 size, but under A3, so I don't have anywhere to put her even now (I bought her more than two years ago).
I may take a pic of her later...
