It's almost the end of the month, and I decided to make changes on what figures I display on my shelf. I put back in storage a set of three Love Hina beauties in their yukatas, and wanted to display my Accel World Kuroyukihime School Avatar Version Figma (it's the gal w/ pink and black butterfly wings and comes w/ a little piggy). I bought it used from ebay back in November, but never really had an opportunity to display it. So. . . I finally took it out of the box, and a precursory examination shows all the parts present. So far so good. When I pulled the main figure off the plastic tray, I noticed that the hole in the back of the figure has a peg stuck in it. Uh oh. With a sinking feeling, I took the wings, and confirmed that the peg connecting the butterfly wings to the back had snapped off. This by itself wouldn't be a problem, as I could probably use a bit of crazy glue or proxy to stick the wings to the back (and who's going to notice anyway?). The second issue is that the upper left wing had also snapped off from the connector. That is impossible to fix unfortunately, and the section involved is actually quite visible. So it sux for me b/c two months has passed, and I can't return the defective item to the ebay seller for a refund. I COULD display the gal w/o the wings, but the wings is what made this particular figure unique in the Figma lineup.
I will probably grab it off Amiami later on since it's available for under 40 bucks new, if I find another figure to combine w/ in an order. But the cautionary tale here is to check your figure whenever you get the item used.
To be fair though, the design for this figure is quite challenging, and the wings are easy to break because the pieces are solid and heavy. I wouldn't be surprised if the original buyer had displayed it on the shelf and the figure just snapped off at the back due to the heavy weight.
In the meantime, instead of displaying Kuroyukihime sans wings on my shelf, I went w/ plan B: Beach Queens Infinite Stratos Houki Shinonono 1/10 scale figure. My first Beach Queens figure, and it's actually quite impressive. Good material, solidly built, good paint job overall. My only concern is the one peg stand; really need to insert and remove very carefully to prevent the peg from snapping.

Oohh.. I like the new under-wear skin you apply to this forum.
those ped stand are always the first thing to break... but, those "COLD-CAST" anime figures are the WORST

I've never bought used figures - at least opened figures anyway. I stated on the old thread (which for some reason got deleted though it was very helpful to those who needed to know these things) that I look for certain things when buying a figure. If it's from ebay or Mandarake, I check to see if it's opened or not, and the same from ebay. For AmiAmi, this is never a problem. Three figures have eventually broken due to some form of faulty design, but not from the fault of the party I bought from.
Either way, I tend to throw broken or unwanted figures away. Did give a few to my nieces, though!

Finalgear wanted to clean house. And your links (especially the pics) were dead, Dave. *shrugs*
Re: Kuroyukihime figma. I'm having second thoughts on getting a replacement, b/c if I ever display it on the shelf (with the wings), chances are I'll snap them off too. ><
re: Amiami. Really like their service so far. Their used section moves FAST. However, I've noticed some steep price increases for the K-on figmas. I bought some used for under 2,000 yen each. Now, I'm seeing 2,600 yen whenever these figs are back in stock. I've seen price adjustments upward, but never downward (at least not for the figs on my watch list).
I'm having an "interesting" problem w/ an ebay purchase. I had bought a used figure from a reputable seller located in Japan. It's an Armor Girls Project Infinite Stratos charlotte Dunois School Uniform action figure from Bandai. Price was $38 shipped. The item took a week and a half to go from Japan to New York City. Tracking number indicated that US customs has it. But after a week, they still haven't released the package. Usually it takes about 2 weeks for a SAL package to arrive from japan. But w/ the customs hold up, it's already been 3 weeks. It's the first time this has happened to me, and I'm just wondering if you guys ever experienced this problem w/ customs.

re: missing SAL package from Japan. The last update had it w/ customs. But it has not been moved to my local sorting facility. I tried contacting usps website, and they said to just look up the tracking number at their website. I sent a polite reply saying that I've done that already, and there's been no update on the location of the package for the past 2 weeks.
Fortunately, it's a figure that came out recently, and could be replaced (if I find a good deal) if I want to.

You're having buyer's remorse? if's BS quality... not even worthy of be calling "FAKE" or "BOOTLEG". It's like those cheap toys you see at the fea-market I can relate to that. I've generally avoided buying releases from SEGA prize or FURYU precisely for this reason---the horrible quality. I decided to shell out a bit more for higher quality products. Don't get me wrong. I understand that the Chinese currency hasn't been cheap lately, and it costs the manufacturer more money to produce their figure goods. Additionally, consumers are very price conscious nowadays and figure companies have to charge at a price point that generates consumer demand while still making a profit. You could try your luck at ebay and see if you can get your money back.

If the USP is within your area, you should go look for you package. this is the first time I've had an issue w/ SAL mail. Also, I think the hold up is at customs. SAL and EMS packages still have be filtered through customs before the inbound packages are released to the USPS regional sorting facilities and then to your local p.o. for delivery. It's not a SAL vs. EMS issue. That being said, if it's EMS shipping, I could pursue a refund, and the sender could seek reimbursement via insurance claim with their p.o. I don't believe this lost package is insured, unfortunately. The last tracking status showed that the package was at customs facility, which is located in Jamaica, Queens. I don't know if they still have it there, or the package is over at the Flushing sorting facility.

People online are SERIOUSLY overreacting to Amiami's closure on 02/08th for server maintenance. I dropped in at midnite yesterday, and the used section had over 1100 figures. I dropped by just now, and they're down to. . . 280. In other words, they sold 800+ used products in less than 24 hours!!!
I'm sure a lot of the items will be back on sale in the used section when the buyer doesn't pay up w/in the 7 days grace period. But still, it boggles my mind to see the mad dash for their figures like this. And here's the funny part: as I was adding stuff to my watch list, the figures kept disappearing, like a used Armor Girls Project IS Akatsubaki for 7k yen (or 20 bucks discount off MSRP). There were definitely some really nice bargains there.
That being said, I was using my android phone to surf their site yesterday for the first time, and I have to say the mobile version works really well. I was able to make 2 purchases from the used section, one for a Dog Days figma figure, the other a Love, Election, and Chocolate high priestess figure. With shipping via SAL registered, my order will cost me 80 bucks. Now that's a bargain! ^^
