I finished watching Zetman. Lots of good plots, but the studio squeezed too much material into too few episodes. Should have been a 24 episodes show, imo. Lackluster ending is also a downer for me. Final Grade: C+

I marathoned all six free eps of Ace of the Diamond on Crunchyroll. Interesting protagonist, and some moving aspects as well. Looking good so far.

Also watched Log Horizon. Artwork is rather blend, but the story is A+. Different pace from SAO.

I actually liked .hack (some of it anyway). the cross media platform concept (anime, video games) was interesting, but it was a decade ahead of its time in my view. I don't necessarily need the concept of the anime show to reinvent the wheel, but they need to give me something to grab onto as a viewer.
There are many, many shows where I watch the first ep, and don't bother to finish it. So give LH credit for keeping me interested. ^^

not necessarily. Look at fashion industry. Lots of recycling in trends. There was the ultra tight pants, the peasant pants, the retro 60s/70s style, just to name a few examples.
My criteria differs from yours. I just want something that engages me as a reader/viewer.

Finally finished watching OniAi on Hulu. Interesting show w/ lots of highs and lows. Nicely designed characters (both visual and personalities). Weak and unlikely premise of 4 gals and 1 guy under one room at a private dormitory (where are the other students? ). The last ep through in a new curve that destroyed the basic plot, and the male just throw an it's complicated line rather than explain it more adequately. It's another show that should have been longer, but stopped when it finally gained traction, leaving me w/ some mild disappointment. Final Grade: B

^--- how many episodes in all?

I think OniAi had 12 eps. They were a good deal of time establishing everyone's character and relationship among each other. It sort became one seedy revelation after another, and the viewer doesn't get enough time to digest everything before something new is revealed. The pace was totally off in my view. But it was an entertaining show, and I'm seriously considering grabbing the official R1 release.

^--- wow... 12 eps.. i remember average anime series was 25 eps at some point... if it was "HIT".... then 200 eps easy....

yeah, I was skeptical at first, b/c it was about a bro and sister moving in together at a private school dorm. But the voice acting was A+, and the character designs are fairly good with a lot of meat. This is a show that deserves a second season. But I don't know if they'll get it due to popularity of oreimo (and perhaps a desire to move away from bro/siscon genre).

Nothing wrong w/ a boy-mech show if it is entertaining. ^^

I just want to chime in for a minute and tell y'all how amazingly excited I am that the 25th Anniversary Edition of Akira just came out (from Funimation)
What really really makes me uber-happy is that they included the original 1988 Streamline dub. I was first introduced to Akira when I was a teen in 1989. I went to a comic convention and someone was selling nth-generation dubbed copies of it before Streamline released it in the States. I watched that dub so many times I can't even give you a number.
That dub hasn't been heard since that VHS release. No, actually the Criterion laserdisc release had the dub, but my Criterion disc succumbed to laser-rot over 15 years ago.
For a really long time I've told people about that dub. When the Pioneer DVD came out, I was so depressed with their new dub, despite everyone telling me it was better. To me, it wasn't. It just wasn't the same.
The evening I got the new blu-ray, I randomly cued up the scene selection, and, automatically, I immediately started talking alone with the scene. Every inflection, every word, every accent, ever pause - I did it. My wife actually said out loud "What. The. Hell. Sid." It was amazing.
I can't wait to sneak it in during a movie night soon. I'm so excited. So so so so excited.
Thank you Funimation. I'm instantly a fan.
